Today I swam for the first time.
Every year I make it a goal of mine to learn how to swim. I always have the best of intentions but it never seems to work out. This year my aunt moved into a new home and she has a pool in the back yard so I decided this would be the year that I finally learn to swim. Today was a nice day so I went over there and talked my little cousins into getting in the pool with me. My cousins are 12 and 13 and both know how to swim, the 13-year-old more than the younger one but both still better than me.
They both jumped in the pool and started playing and jumping around right away. I took my time and tried to inch my way in until eventually they convinced me to just rip off the band aid and just jump in the water – so that’s what I did, I jumped in. Once I got into the not so luke warm water and my body started to adjust the older one started to teach me how to doggy peddle. It took me a few times but eventually I got the concept of the doggy peddle. Once I got that down he started to teach me how to breathe and the importance of keeping my knees straight and my toes pointed. Then guess what by the end of the day I was swimming from one end of the pool to the other!
I am so proud of myself. This has been a goal of mine since I was a little girl and finally today was the first day I swam. It was incredible! I feel like a kid who just learned to ride a bike. And what a great workout, my arms are so sore right now. I admit I am far from being a pro and I have a lot more practicing to do before I can really call myself a swimmer but I am so proud of my first step. By the end of the summer I will be swimming laps. So excited about reaching another goal of mine!
